Understanding Our Services: Meeting You Where You Are

At My Place Counseling we know everyone’s needs are unique. That’s why we offer a wide range of counseling, coaching, and training services — so you and your family can find the exact kind of support that fits where you are now and helps you get to where you want to be.

Below, you’ll find a clear breakdown of each service: what it is, how long it lasts, whether it’s covered by insurance, what it’s best for, and how it’s different from other options.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is a one-on-one therapeutic relationship with a licensed mental health professional. It provides a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, heal from past experiences, manage mental health challenges like anxiety or depression, and develop healthier coping skills. Sessions are tailored to your personal goals, helping you gain insight and create meaningful, lasting change.

  • Session Length: 45–60 minutes

  • Frequency: Weekly or biweekly; length depends on your needs

  • Insurance: ✅ Covered by most plans

  • Best for: Anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, self-esteem, personal growth

  • How it’s different: Focuses on emotional and mental health treatment, not just goal setting or skills coaching.

Marriage Counseling

Marriage counseling is a type of counseling that helps partners improve their relationship, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their emotional connection. Guided by a licensed therapist, couples work together in a safe, neutral space to identify unhelpful patterns, communicate more openly, and rebuild trust and intimacy.

Marriage counseling can help couples navigate challenges such as frequent arguments, feeling distant, issues with trust, or major life changes like parenting, career shifts, or loss. It is not about assigning blame but rather about helping each partner feel heard, understood, and better equipped to work through difficulties as a team.

  • Session Length: 45–60 minutes

  • Frequency: Weekly or biweekly; duration varies

  • Insurance: ✅ May be covered if related to a mental health diagnosis (like anxiety, depression). Coverage varies by plan and reason for counseling — we’re happy to check for you.

  • Best for: Communication breakdowns, recurring conflicts, rebuilding trust, intimacy issues, navigating life changes as a couple

  • How it’s different: Focuses specifically on the couple’s relationship dynamics, not individual or family-wide issues.

Family Counseling (Family Therapy)

Family counseling brings two or more family members together to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships. It’s especially helpful when a family is navigating major life changes, parenting struggles, blended family dynamics, or the impact of a family member’s mental health concerns. The focus is on the family as a whole — understanding patterns, repairing relationships, and fostering healthier ways to connect and support each other.

  • Session Length: 45–60 minutes

  • Frequency: Weekly or biweekly; length depends on your family’s goals

  • Insurance: ✅ Covered by most plans

  • Best for: Ongoing family conflict, parenting disagreements, life transitions, mental health concerns affecting the family

  • How it’s different: Addresses the emotional dynamics and relationship patterns among multiple family members.

Life Coaching

Life coaching is a collaborative, action-oriented process focused on helping you clarify goals, overcome obstacles, and achieve your fullest potential. Unlike counseling, coaching does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Instead, it’s future-focused and helps with personal or professional goals, career changes, motivation, time management, and creating a balanced, fulfilling life. Coaching provides structure, accountability, and practical strategies to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

  • Session Length: 45–60 minutes

  • Frequency: Sold in packages (e.g., 4, 6, or 8 sessions)

  • Insurance: ❌ Not covered by insurance

  • Best for: Career changes, work-life balance, achieving personal goals, building motivation and confidence

  • How it’s different: No mental health diagnosis or treatment — purely goal-setting and practical support.

Parent Training

Parent training is a skills-based service for parents and caregivers who want to feel more confident and effective in raising children or teens. It focuses on understanding your child’s behavior, setting healthy boundaries, managing challenging behaviors, and building stronger parent-child relationships. This training provides practical tools and strategies you can use right away to create a calmer, more cooperative home environment.

  • Session Length: 45–60 minutes

  • Frequency: Short-term packages (4–8 sessions)

  • Insurance: ❌ Not covered by insurance

  • Best for: Behavior challenges, power struggles, daily routines, improving parent-child relationships

  • How it’s different: Teaches parenting skills rather than addressing deeper family conflicts or mental health issues.

Family Coaching

Family coaching, while similar in spirit to parent training, looks at the family as a unit and focuses on building practical skills and routines that make daily life smoother and more connected. Unlike family counseling, which may explore deeper emotional issues, family coaching is goal-oriented and provides concrete strategies to improve communication, teamwork, and household harmony. It’s especially helpful for families who want proactive support rather than therapy.

  • Session Length: 45–60 minutes

  • Frequency: Sold in coaching packages

  • Insurance: ❌ Not covered by insurance

  • Best for: Daily structure, household management, practical solutions for smoother family interactions

  • How it’s different: More practical and solution-focused than traditional family therapy — no mental health treatment.

Executive Functioning Training

Executive Functioning Training helps individuals — kids, teens, or adults — build the mental skills needed to plan, organize, manage time, and follow through on tasks. These skills are essential for success in school, work, and daily life, but can be challenging for those with ADHD, learning differences, or anyone who struggles with organization and focus. This training teaches practical tools like using planners, breaking tasks into steps, prioritizing responsibilities, and developing effective routines.

  • Session Length: 45–60 minutes

  • Frequency: Offered in short-term or ongoing packages

  • Insurance: ❌ Not covered by insurance

  • Best for: ADHD, procrastination, school or work challenges, time management

  • How it’s different: Strictly teaches practical skills — no therapy or emotional processing.
